Successful blood drive at Mwananyamala Referral Hospital

An impressive number of blood donors gathered at the Mwananyamala Referral Hospital on the 21st of January 2017 from 9am to 2pm to support a blood drive for children with Sickle Cell (SCD).

Regina Chovenye in charge of the blood bank said she was very happy with the outcome whereby 35 pints were donated on the day.

“We sincerely thank everybody who turned up today, the only way we can get blood is through donations from people who are aware of our great need”

The hospital bank normally has between 10 to 20 pints of blood per day.

The blood is tested for syphilis, hepatitis A and B and HIV/Aids and donors can receive their blood test results and their blood group voluntarily at no cost two weeks after their donations.

The exercise was coordinated by the Tanzania Health and Medical Foundation and will be part of an ongoing activity.
