GERMAN GOVERNMENT EARMARKS 1 MILLION EUROS TO COMBAT ELEPHANT POACHING IN TANZANIA

The government of Germany has earmarked 1 million euros towards the fight against elephant poaching in the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania.The Selous is one of the largest protected areas in Africa, covering 50,000 square kilometres.
It was recently been placed on the list of World Heritage in Danger List because of wide spread poaching.

Selous also boasts a sizable population of black rhino,cheetah,hippopotamus among other species.It also has a a high variety of habitats including miombo woodlands , open grasslands, riverine forests and swamps ,making it a valuable laboratory for the ongoing ecological and biological processes.

In recent years the population of elephants in the reserve has dwindled drastically from 70,000 in the year 2006 to 13,084 last year!
